Frequently Asked Questions

Please read through to the end before sending an email. Thanks!

Where do you live?
I currently live with my husband and 3 children in Utah. I am originally from North Potomac, Maryland…an East Coast girl at heart.

What kind of printer do you use?
I use an EPSON R2400. It is an inkjet printer specifically for making art prints and photos. It has since been upgraded to the R2800. Other good models are the EPSON R1900 and R1400.

What kind of paper and supplies do you use?
I currently use Hahnemuhle Museum Etching paper. It is a heavyweight fine art printing paper, with exceptional quality. I also use EPSON velvet fine art paper at times. For more information on the paper specifications, you can visit here and here. Ink Jet Art is a great company for ordering printing supplies.

How did you get started?
I started my ETSY shop on October 4th, 2007. I opened with 40 prints to purchase. I worked out of a corner of our bedroom, with a handful of supplies and a computer and printer. We have since grown and I currently have 3 employees, and a studio of our own! Read here and here for more of my story.

Did you go to art school?
I didn’t go to art school, although I wanted to. I had studied art on and off through high school, and consider my time at Interlochen Arts Camp as a pivital point in my life where I knew I always wanted to further my art. I had an equal love for Theater and Music, and chose to study Musical Dance Theater at BYU. I knew I wanted to have a family some day, and I wouldn’t be able to be on stage while mothering. So when the kids started coming, I decided to get back into my art for good.

How do you do it all?
I don’t. That’s the truth of it. Anyone who is raising children, running a business and freelancing is lacking in other areas. And if they aren’t lacking, it’s because they have help! What I am not showing you is my laundry that’s currently piling up, and the dishes in the sink. Not to mention the toys all over the floor. I have an incredibly supportive husband who literally bends over backwards to make this all happen. He is an amazing cook, and takes care of most of the meals. I also have a mother’s helper every so often to help with the laundry and cleaning. And of course, I have people taking care of the printing and shipping, and other management responsibilities. So no…I don’t do it all!

I have a boutique coming up, would you like to participate?
I will not be participating in any shows for the 2009-2010 season. Sorry!

Can you make me a custom print or design?
Right now I am not able to make any custom designs. I wish I could! But I am currently working on illustrating a picture book for Harper Collins, and don’t have any more free time to work on freelancing. Keep checking my blog for updates!

Do you sell wholesale?
Yes, I do sell wholesale. For more information, email us at
wholesale@sarahjanestudios.com You will be asked to fill in some information for us, and we can get you started.

I don’t want to get a paypal account. Can I use a credit card to purchase from your shop?
We currently only sell my prints and products through my ETSY shop. The good news is, you can now use a credit card through PAYPAL’s service. Visit www.paypal.com for more information. For more info on how to use PAYPAL, this is a great tutorial.

What program do you use for your art?
I create all my artwork by hand with ink. To color my images, I use Photoshop. For tutorials on how to use Photoshop, I am not the best teacher! The internet has many tutorials that are very helpful.

Can I suggest a product I would like to see in your shop?
Yes! I love suggestions! If you would like to see a certain product or image in my shop, please email us at info@sarahjanestudios.com We love to hear your ideas, and will do our best to consider them for the shop.

How long will it take to respond to my email?

The best thing to do is first read through ths list of F.A.Q’s and then to email us at info@sarahjanestudios.com and we will do our best to get back to you within 24 hours.

Can I feature your art on my blog?
I am more than happy have you spread the word about my artwork and blog, but please make sure to give proper reference to my website or shop. Please only post images of my artwork, and not any personal images of my family.
