choosy.
OK. I realize my posts as of late are a bit on the family side of things. Life is mostly family around these parts. But amidst the unpacking and moving and getting over winter colds…oh and makin’ a baby, there has been a bit o’ art. And because we are family here too…I am taking opinions. Kinda like, “High-heels or flats with the dress?” Although, it’s not shoes we’re trying on. Maybe both don’t work, but one has to be better than the other.
Thoughts?

Oh, tough one! I think I am leaning towards the one with the red bird… Hang on I just changed my mind, now I think the first one! I tried to imagine which one I would prefer to hand in my boys room…
Love the red bird!
Loving the red.Absolutely : )
Hmmm, I think I like the blue bird the best.
Hi Sarah!
Both are of course, lovely…but in my opinion the red bird takes away the attention from the boy. So I would choose the blue birds! I hope I can be helpful!
xoxo,
ishtar
Definitely the blue! The red is too distracting.
My automatic reaction was red but then I agreed with the distracting comment – perhaps a darker green ratehr than blue bird would do both – accent without distraction?
Hi Sarah. So nice of you to involve us in your creative process. I prefer the blue bird. On my screen it is a bit difficult to read the words. I am sure in person it is a bit easier. Your art is lovely. I can’t get enough.
I love the one with the red bird. To me it wasn’t distracting–I thought that maybe the boy was imagining himself flying away like the red bird!
I like the darker instead of the red. It keeps me looking at it, whereas the red is a little too harsh. Just my 2¢.
These are great! keep em comin. Yes, on the screen it is harder to read the words. but in person, it is really nice. the background actually has a very soft, almost seer-sucker texture. nearly impossible to see on a computer. wish you could see the boy up close. he is so cute:)
Hi Sarah! This is such a darling piece. I think maybe you should make the bird the same color as his hair…as if it’s him flying away to far away places (via imagination). He is so sweet.
I like the blue bird – but it sounds like you have enough people on both sides that you may want to consider offering it both ways. I would like it without the words – the image says so much just on it’s own. Thanks for sharing – I love the birds.
lovely! i like the blue one, my eye is drawn too much to the red and i can\\\’t focus on anything else. but i love this! it reminds me of the anthropologie store fronts right now… they have tons of cut out paper birds just adorning their windows!
I like the red bird the best. (Sounds like the book \”Red is Best\” – a great Canadian book!). I agree with Heidi that the image might be just as strong without the words. I think I\’d like the red even better if the boy was wearing something that tied to the bird colour. Either way though – adorable print! Love your blog! …
For sure the red bird!
I like the blue one!
The red one, definitely
What a happy print! I love this
It\’s so playful!
RED RED RED.
How about a yellow bird? I love yellow birds! Plus, it would tie in with the little boy\’s hair.
I vote blue. Normally I love a little splash of color, especially red, but in this case I do think it distracts from the overall picture (which is adorable)!
I agree with all the blue folk out there- I like it better. It\’s more simple, and a bit more creative.
ok. just added what may be my favorite one now. I LOVE a splash of color, but I love subtlety as well. maybe the red sweater boy does it?
I like the first, blue w/blue.
My grandmother once commissioned a painting and upon receiving the final white, gray and blue paletted painting went back to the artist as asked him to add one tiny red bird among the trees. So naturally my favorite is the 2nd.
Although I must say I love the little boy\’s red shirt in the thrid.
Love them all, but over thinking can kill the art. Go with your first impulse! Mine was the blue background with the red bird (the middle one).
oh, definately the first one here. i like the simplicity. another vote for blue!
Definately the last one Beautiful!
I LOVE the red sweater & red bird.
I say the red. It connects the boy and the bird and hints at adventure. The red gives it a level of energy that the blue does not. So good of you to ask for our opinions.
Red with red — connects the two of them… That one special little boy is reaching out to the one special bird!
I like the blue bird. The red bird seems to take away from the boy.
I love that boy! he is really sweet!!
The third one is the one I like the most.Changing the boy clothes red as the bird, did it! You can focus on both now!
Sarah, have you tried painting the bird in the first drawing yellow, as the boy´s hair? I think it would do ok…just a humble opinion..I´m really a big fan! I love your blog too by the way..I think it´s the best blog I´ve read so far!
I love the two with the red bird. It’s just the right amount of pop.
Ohhhh! Most definitely the red bird. Love it!
I like the blue background (but I\\\’m in BOY mode right now) but I would try a different color shirt. Maybe a pale yellow to break up the blue…I love them both though!
I love the blue, the subtleness of it is classic!
Hey Sarah, I like having the boy and the bird both be red. I think having them match, helps the reprisentation of him being like the bird and flying away. Plus, I think red has pizazz. However, I really like the blue background. I say, do the last one, but change the background to blue. Good luck!
-Malinda (I met you at the Nie concert earlier this month and also at a Startup Princess thing a while back.)
I like the middle one. Maybe the red bird does become more of a draw in the picture than the boy b/c of the red color (as someone else stated) but I just love everything about it. I find the all-blue picture a little dull. And the red boy AND red bird doesn’t grab me as much as just the one little red bird. I really love that.
Hi Sarah. Personally, I like the third one. At least, this is the one I would buy for my boy’s room. I would pick the second one next. So cute. Love it!! Good luck.
Ooh, I like the third one the best.
I like the red bird, I think you should make more boy prints.
Oh, the 3rd one, definitely! All 3 incarnations are lovely, but the red bird, IMO, is better, and I certainly love the pattern fill you used on #3… gives it a little more dimension. You rock!
I like the first one best, I don’t find it dull at all, rather it’s soothing and sweet, perfect for a baby boy’s room!
the red bird really adds something; I also seem to prefer the one w/ the red bird & blue background, it makes it feel like the birds & boy are all more in the same world-space somehow – a bit more of a fanciful feel to me.
I prefer the dark blue bird on the blue background or the red bird on cream with the red sweater — more balanced visually than the one red bird.
I love the middle one with the red bird. That pop of color is just so happy!
I like the second one, with the red bird, better.
I could see the first illustration in a baby room, but I ccould see the second illustration in any room.
